Candoia Paulsoni: Where to Buy?

reako45 Oct 03, 2005 12:45 AM

Does anyone know of a breeder or breeders who sell Candoia paulsoni? I saw a pair @ a show this weekend, and their owner began to educate me on their husbandry. Very interesting little snakes. I am currently reading and doing research on them. If I find I'm able to care for them I'd like to buy 1. Thanx.

I currently breed them but will not have any available til 06. I do know Jerry Conway has some. Make sure you can feed frogs!!

Does feeding frogs pose a parasite problem? What kind of frogs have you had success w/ in the past? Thanx.

They eat frogs as babies...they can be tricky to switch over, scenting techniques usually will work if you persist, but they often take a few pinks, then refuse to take them again and only want frogs...you can go back and forth like this for a while. I recently had a baby male that I got from Conway die on me because he began to refuse EVERYTHING. He was way to small to forcefeed, though I did try once. Thought I was gonna kill the guy so I stopped. I did get the female switched over onto f/t pinks, but it took several months of dedication to accomplish that. She's a monster rodent feeder now though.

Frogs can carry parasites that may harm your snake, so it's best to implement scenting techniques and get them switched pronto.

The only types of frogs I have feed are gray and green tree frogs.

hi. i am not an expert or breeder. my candoia paulsoni ground boa finally went into shedding. her last shed was 4-5 months ago. she shed before i bought her back may.
i've heard they eat frogs, too, but i guess i happen to have gotten one that eats mice. she took a f/t hopper the other day even though she went into shedding. my milk snake wouldn't eat it so didn't want to waste it and tried her with it. she has a great feeding response. all i do is wiggle it a bit and she goes for it. sometimes not even that, if i drop it in she will come out and grab it.
i can't wait till she sheds to see how her colors are. she doesn't seem to need that much more care then my corns or milk. she is the only one of my snakes that i've actually seen soaking in her water bowl (no i don't have mites). that is the only big difference i've read about them. is that they love to soak.
just my experienc in the short time i've had my candoia.
