Actually the price of FT Geckos is going down due to large numbers produced/available. Amels can be purchased for $100 to $500 depending on color intensity and who you buy from. Hets are $50 to $ 100. Normals CB/WC run $30 -$60, Stripes $50 - $60, Peach (hard to find due to use in Amel Breeding programs), Orange/Tangerine pretty much just available in Amel Het form @ $100.

Many breeders are selling out FT stock due to drop in price/numbers available which = Profitability. In fact many Reptile Breeding Companies no longer breed or sell FT Gecko morphs of any kind due to high availability which = low cost/sinking prices. I know personally D & J Reptiles no longer breeds of sells FTs, this I was told by Danny himself.

I myself went to Chicagos" NARBC show and purchase several Amel Fat tails for $140 to $175. And that was Peach & Tangerine amels, Hets are still $50 to $75 ea. With many Higher priced Amels not selling for cash but trades the prices will go down still. The cost of feeding and keeping offspring that don't sell is the force that causes breeders to wholesale out also. I suggest you go to a few shows, check faunaclassifieds.com, [bleep].com, and local Swaps for the best prices. Even the best bloodlines are bought by local breeders who don't have the overhead, room to raise & feed offspring for long run, and will sell at a resonable price! Buy at the price you are comfortable with for which morph decided upon.

Thanks, that was really helpful. It was the kind of info I was asking for. I plan to look when the local expo comes around next year.

http://www.lizardlair.net/AVAILABLEFATTAILS.html

This is the website with good prices on Amels for now. I have heard they are good and becarefull shipping in fall & winter months. Ask alot of questions before purchase as I always do to be sure I know how old the pictures are and how big the animal is now. As for the $300 to $700 each animals, let them keepem. Trades is trades and cash is CASH. The public is no longer willing to pay high prices for very available morphs.

PoohBear03031 Oct 23, 2005 05:41 AM

Thanks for the site info, I like to get an idea on the prices and look at the pics, even though I am planning on getting on at the local expo. Thanks again.

Perhaps I was looking in the wrong places, but I spent several hours last night searching through classifieds, breeder websites, etc. Looking for amelanistic morphs of fat tails and could find none under $300 which was quite a dissapointment. As far as shows go, I have been to many around my area(notheren VA) and have not even come across regular fat tails. I actually got the one I have(a normal female) by driving all the way to a show in Kentucky! Outrageous eh? Well, I did end up buying a 100% het for amel gecko last night from the classifieds here on Kingsnake, which I am looking forward to getting in the next couple days... The breeder was asking $125.00 for him, but with shipping and all it came to $165.00 still quite a hefty investment, but It will be worth it I am sure Pooh, Sorry I could not have been more help.

You should have been able to get a het for less than that. I have seen hets for $150 but also they are easily available for $75, and herptitude was selling the last of theirs for $50 I believe. Recently in the classifieds I saw someone selling female amels for $150 each or two for $250. Other places they are $300 . Keep checking the classified and looking around. Lower prices are out there.

All of the fatties we own are normal or striped. Honestly, I am not a big fan of the amels. Of course I am not trying to breed them for money so I just get what I like

I'm not really interested in breeding either, I don't know enough about it. I would suck at it anyway, because I would end up wanting to keep all the babies!
