New baby yellow foot Please HELP!

bunke10 Oct 15, 2005 09:10 PM

I just got a very healthy CB baby yellow foot. I have a red foot also and everyone says that the care of the yellow foot is very similar to that of the red foot. Are there any differences? I haven't been able to fine any care sheets specifically for the yellow foot, only for yellow and red foots. What should I feed for protein and in the protein intake the same (10% of the diet) as it is for red foots? Thank you in advance for any info on the differences in care for the yellow foot!

Well first off you need to house them in different enclosures. The reason is they will inter breed or just kill each other. just keep them seperate. Also the care is pretty much the same. I think yellow foots like more heat. And there care is more like a boxie care then a tortoise.

The care for both species is about the same with a couple of notable differences. Yellowfoots prefer more humidity than redfoots, more shade and are generally a bit more shy. But, raised from hatchlings they are not difficult. They like to have access to water also were they soak to avoid the heat.
They CAN be kept together and they occur in the same habitat in a number of places without interbreeding. In Ilha de Maraca (Northwestern Brazil) they are found even in the same microhabitat but do not interbreed or fight.
I know of many keepers here in Florida who have kept them together for decades without any problems.
