Female Grandis not quite right... worried

tazziesmommy Oct 17, 2005 06:09 PM

I have a female PM Grandis and she is just not acting or looking quite right. Her bright neon green coloring is turning a dark brownish green, she's not as active as she usually is and she is spending quite a bit of time sitting on the ground. She spends very little time hanging out on the glass and seems to have abandoned her favorite hiding/sleeping place - a hollowed out bamboo "tube". I got her as a rescue about 3 and 1/2 years ago and she was an adult when I got her so I don't know her exact age. She has a "bent" tail due to deplorable husbandry before I got her, but has been perfectly healthy for the last 3 years. About a week ago, I did a major cleaning of her cage, so at first I just thought it was stress from that, but she's not getting better, so I don't think that's it. I don't want to stress her anymore by taking her to the vet unless I really, really need to.

She has a nice, healthy weight, good size calcium sacs and a healthy adult male that she lives with. No breeding behavior for about the last year, but they seemed happy and healthy so I just let them be. I've increased the temps on the warm side of the cage a bit and replaced her UV light (the old one was about 5 or 6 months old). Any ideas what could be wrong? When do I risk even more stress by taking her to the vet? Some people might not have noticed the changes so it isn't anything drastic, but I know my girl and something isn't right.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Lisa

We took Athena to the vet and he said she is eggbound. He is doing surgery either tonight or tomorrow morning. It doesn't look too good. How did this happen? She has all sorts of bamboo and plants and a nice big cage. What did I do wrong to cause this to happen?

PS Has anyone had a grandis survive this surgery?

Thanks
Lisa

I'm sorry to hear about your grandis. From my understanding there isn't anything you can do to prevent them from getting bound. It's just something that happens .
I hope her surgery goes well.
