Introducing a few more ladies

WanderingLost Oct 19, 2005 10:35 AM

Hey guys, I am purchasing 3 more fat tails in the next couple of days-- two of which are females. I have a big tank that I made myself-- a fact that i am QUITE proud of . I would say it would be the equivalent to possibly a 30-35 gal. I have one female in there at the current time and want to add the other two in upon arrival. What is the best way to do this without causing the current inhabitant too much stress? I was worried that one of two things might happen. She might have the attitude well, this is my house get out! Or, She might be scared of her new companions. Is there any full-proof way of introducing, or should I just put them and and let them have at it? Thanks.

I really don't think there's a 'fool proof' way to do this.most of the time females will get along. She may accept them into her home, or she may try bullying them, or vice versa. Just put them together and keep an eye on them for a day or two and do what's necessary to eliminate any stress between them. Which may mean you'll need another cage to put the trouble maker/s in . Now to the males. They will get along together until they reach sexual maturity, 12-18 months of age, then they will have to be seperated. They will most certainly fight, and if not attended to, often to the death. Hope this helps.

I had no intention of putting males together, just females. I just wish there was a full proof way to do it. Do you think it would help if I took the one out of her home she is in now and put in another separate cage until the new arrivals get here, and then re-arrange the old one so it does not look them same. that way it is a new, un-established, territory for all of them? That was just an idea that I had.
