Will a Pair Work or....

Can you keep just a pair of Russians together or is another female necessary? I was going to purchase a pair, but am concerned for the female. The enclosure for the indoor season is 4x8. Thanks for the help...

It depends...as temperments vary with individuals. Some males (and occasionally even females) are very cantankerous, constantly biting, chasing, ramming, mounting and harrassing the females. This can get serious if she can not escape, with blood drawn...torn foreleg scales, etc. Lots of stress, she can hardly feed, always withdrawing to fend off, etc. You may carefully design the enclosure to provide visual barriers and retreats, but she still may be "bullied" into long term hiding. If given the choice, I would go with two females, but some males would work and probably breed. How you get a "compatible" male is the tough part...Good luck, Vic
