MY Painted Turtle has Little White Bugs!

brownsthename Oct 24, 2005 09:49 PM

Hello. My female painted turtle has been lazing out of her water today. I was watching her sleep and she had at least 5 very small white bugs crawling all over her face and shell. Does anybody know what these are and if they are problematic. Thanks.

Yuck! LOL
They are bugs & not worms? There are white worms that some people call "trash worms" that sometimes invade a tank especially if you've bought aquarium plants but if these are crawling bugs with legs I don't know what they might be. If it were me I'd try tearing the tank apart, disinfect everything & then wash the bugs off the turtle.
ewwww
good luck with this!

Hey there. Thanks for the advice. FYI the little white bugs resemble the little red bugs that one sees outdoors in the summer. You know, those very very tiny bright red bugs that look like spiders. They seem to be gone for now but a overhaul of the tank is definately in the works. I saw at the pet store that they sold drops for ticks and mites, I am currently looking into this. Thanks again.
