Aboreal hot?

Acp Oct 30, 2005 05:44 AM

What would be a good first aboreal hot snake?

Currently i'm keeping copperheads (c.contortric and c. pictigaster) but i would like to expand the hot selection a little with some aboreal vipers.
I have been keeping boigas for years and i'm pretty familiar with agressive aboreal species. So i'm not completely a rookie *G*

What would you suggest? Was thinking about B. Schlegeli, but heard something about they litteraly would throw themselves of their cage to tag you??
Was also thinking about Trimeresurus Popeorum??

Thanks

Never had an Eyelash throw its self at me. Sounds like someone mixed things up with Atheris Squamanger which can be like a coiled spring. I have had one of those pursue me accross a table.

Eyelashes (TME) tend to be docile little fellows unless food is near. Normal safety protocols will easily keep these safe.

Warning though...They can be so good natured you can easily forget that they can tag you.

Hello frank,

thank you for the answer,

I'll try to have a look on Schlegeli afterall then they are a truely beautiful snake, only the thing i heard about them jumping made me hesitate

how are they when handling on hooks/thongs?

regards
Jakob

Geee.... I never thought of using a "Thong" to handle my snakes, I'll have to try that...LOL

Eyelashes are one of the two or three I would consider if just starting off. Cryptelytrops albolabris or Popeia popeiorum would be other possibilities.

Aboreals can reach out & "touch" you from a greater distance than most people are used to...never underestimate them.

All of these ride the hook very well, just make sure the hook in a long one.

Good Luck,

Al

Yes, see Wolgang Wusters Venomous Snake Systematics Alert page (below)

It's the first 2004 publication.

Cheers!

Actually the thought of an Eyelash in a thong is ...somehow...wrong....(lol).

And yes, they sit rather pretty on a LONG hook.
