How to catch my phelsuma laticunda

takydromus Nov 14, 2005 07:06 PM

I recently caught one of my lizards but when I tried to turn it over to sex it, it dropped its tail. Since it was my first experience of this, I just released it into the aquarium. Now I don't want to try again because I don't want this to happen again. I didn't think that I touched its tail. They are so fast that it took some time to trap it and maybe that caused some extra stress.
Is there an easy way to do this???

I just kinda "scare" mine to where-ever I want them to go. Restraining them really stresses them out and should be avoided.

If you want to sex it look at its femoral pores when its on the glass.

I have used a piece of glass with rounded edges and set it flush against the aquarium. Then I tempt the laticauda onto the glass with a small cricket. Once on the glass you can remove from tank and examine in depth from below.-Baker

Thank you for your suggestions. I was able to catch the one I wanted and easily sex him.
