New caecilian

eobsoleta Nov 23, 2005 01:12 PM

My coworkers and I recently purchased a caecilian for the herpetology professor we work for. It is a terrestrial caecilian (I believe it is one of the mexican burrowing caecilians). We were wondering what the best substrate/terrarium setup would be. We're basing a lot on the Detroit Zoo setup, but they simply keep thiers in dirt-filled buckets at room temperature. Any suggestions?

If you have D. mexicana, then we also keep them in dirt filled sweater boxes between 72 and 80 F. Cooler temps seem to cause problems with them.
