Citrus and Redfoot?

allegraf Nov 30, 2005 11:44 AM

I have never fed any type of citrus to my torts, but the tangerines that I got for my husband look delicious. The torts get the same fruits that my husband gets is the norm in our house. Are tangerines and oranges okay for them to munch on? Thanks.

dunno about tangerines, but i've given my redfoot small bits of orange as a treat. i don't give him very much, or feed it often at all, just because i'm concerned that the acidity of it might not be the best thing for him to fill up on. he sure does like it, though!

I have never had a RF eat that much citrus. Tangerines might be a nice treat though as they are sweeter than most. But I wouldn't feed them that much as the acid levels are kind of high and it might have a laxative effect.

I think it would OK in SMALL amounts and pieces. I know the acidity is kind of high, but I'd be more worried about them getting the juices in thier eyes. I don't know if it would hurt torts, but getting orange juice in my eye stings.

Thanks for the input. I think that I will avoid giving them any citrus and stick to the oldies and goodies like papaya, grapes, bits of apple, mushrooms, etc. Thanks again!
