Uroplatus fimbriatus

wmerker Dec 10, 2005 06:53 PM

Is anyone working with Uroplatus fimbriatus? I am looking for some good advice with sexing. I just received two small animals (less than six inches) which were supposed to be females. To me, they appear to be developing hemipenal bulges, which leads me to believe they are in fact sub-adult males. Do females show any signs of hemipenal bulges? Are any females coming into the country? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can usually get a pretty good idea depending on patterns ( similar to sikorae and henkeli patterns)
some uroplatus will have a slight bulge, but two adults of the opposite sex are very easy to dinstinguish.
both sexes should be just about equally imported, however the % of females that become available to the public after importation, # of females that die during importation or shortly there after due to being gravid/unhealthy, and the # of first come customers may make it seem like there are more males available.
