Calling all Tokay keepers -- Question regarding handling

IguanaMama Dec 18, 2005 08:14 PM

Hi,
I bought a baby CB Tokay a few weeks ago, they said it was about 2-3 months old. It's about 2" snout to vent. I've been handling it every day. Has anyone out there handled hatchlings from the beginning and have them turn out to be tame adults? Or can I expect it to live up to its reputation no matter how hard I try?
Thanks!

The only way i have had TAME Tokays is to hand feed them for 8-11 months and it works. It takes alot of work but well worth it.

OH! My name is Jodi too!!!! What do you feed them? Crickets? Should I give it a tasty wax worm to win its heart over?

I used crickets.

It's my personal belief that just about anything can be tamed (with the exception of maybe a golden tegu...now those are nasty.). I've got five tokay eggs getting ready to pop out any day now, and I'd like to have them at least pseudo-tame before I try to sell them. I had a little guy that I was working with, and for a while he was getting to the point where he'd tolerate some handling, but then I started to concentrate on other things, and now he's reverted back to his primitive ways, lol.
