Baby Western Fence Lizard

Bluehair Dec 19, 2005 12:50 PM

I found a baby Western in my kitchen the other day, not knowing what to do with it I put it in a small fish bowl with some shredded paper and a cap of water. I've kept adult Westerns before for limited amounts of time but I could really use some advice on taking care of this lizard! It is extremely cold and stormy outside so I don't think letting it go is a wise idea, and anyways I've been keen on raising a Western for some time.

This baby lizard needs a 10 gallon tank with an appropriate substrate such as ESU Lizard Litter Jungle Mix, some sturdy rocks to climb on, a good UVB light such as Repti-Sun 5.0, a small wattage basking light (baby lizards overheat and die quite easily, don't use more than a 25-40 watt bulb and make sure it has plenty of places to escape the heat), a screen top, a hide cave, a water bowl, and plenty of small gut-loaded crickets. Dust them with a good calcium poweder every third feeding. It will probably polish off 2-3 tiny cricket pinheads every other day.

It sounds adorable! I love Western spinys, too.

Good luck!
