Are they really this lazy???

king_george789 Dec 28, 2005 10:52 AM

I have 2 leopards and they are genrally pretty active. I recently purchased a fat tail because the stripe down his back was really neat and they are similar to leopards. I've had him for over a month now and I never see him move I also have nocturnal lamps so that he might livin up a little at night. Is he just extremely lazy or does he need a female to keep him company and make him happy in his 20 long? I am also afraid that he's not eating. Can someone give me some advice please!!!!!!!! The local pet stores around here are stupid and don't know anything

It should be easy to tell if he is eating. If you put food in and it is gone in the morning he ate it. If not then he did not. What are you feeding him? My fattails will only eat crickets and will turn their nose up at worms of all types. Other people have luck with other prey.

As for the female, no your male is not lonely. He does not need a girlfriend or a buddy or the like.

What are your temps? Maybe he is too cold and does not want to move.

LOL, not lazy just a little more laid back than the Leos. Which, to my mind, makes them easier to handle also. I think they tend to roam a little later in the night than the Leos do. I think they're at their best when stalkin' crickets It's about as active as I've seen mine. Temps for fat tails are the same as for leos but I think they need a bit more humidity, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. One question though........did you get him from a pet shop or a breeder? Many pet shops have wild caught fat tails and if it's not eating it may have parasites. Might be a good idea to get a fecal done at the vets. Hope this helps.
