I was reading another forum and noticed a link to this website. The pics are outrageously cool and they are breeding them. I've dreamed of owning this species but my pocket book brings me back to reality!

I would love to have this species and I would pay a lot too. But they are almost never offered for sale.
Maik Schilde's book (in German) on the Kinosternids, Staurotypus and Claudius show at least two forms. I'd take either one.
You're welcome.
I know, Claudius is never seen for sale hardly ever, and these would be captive bred gems. I'm thinking of asking if I can get on their waiting list for one. (I assume there is a waiting list!!)
They are really neat turtles.
There is a website in Japan that is for alligator snapping turtles, Staurotypus and Claudius. It has some really great photos but of course, all of the text is in Japanese. One thing that I noticed is that all of the Claudius and Stauros are really obese. I guess they become such 'pets' that it is hard to resist feeding them all the time.
I wish I could remember the name of it but I found it by googling Staurotypus.
