Oh horror. I killed her

eastarch Jan 16, 2006 07:50 PM

I am horrified. I just opened the tank to dump in some crickets. When I put the lid back down I heard her screaming. She had bolted up to the top and got caught when the lid came back down. I feel sick to my stomach. I always look to see where they are, but somehow missed her being that close to the top. It makes me want to get rid of all of them. She had just laid her first clutch for the year about a week ago. I just don't know what else to say.

sorry to hear that. what kind was she?

She is my only female pietchmanni. I say is because I may not have killed her after all. Last night she was screaming and laying on the bottom of the tank twitching. This morning she looks a little more normal. she is up on the log in her usual position. I will try to leave her alone and pay special attention to her vitamins and calcium and hopefully she will recover from her brush with the lid.

that is ggod news to hear. corkbarks are hardier thatn people think. my female is an escape artist whose record for days free is 2. in that time she recived no water that i can think of unless she drank from one of the fishtanks. when i caught her again she ate and drank alot but overall was none worse for the wear. keep us posted and good luck.

what can i say? crap happens. hopefully she'll pull through and like you said, pay special attention to her vitamins/calcium intake.
we've all had horrible things happen, pinching tails, smashing, geckos escaping. it will only help you pay even more attention later.
good luck with her.

Maybe she was just in shock last night, and will be fine as you say , if left quiet for awhile.
It's always a horrible feeling when we accidently do something that harms a little creature.

I put down the lid one night after feeding my three henks, and woke in the morning to find one of my males tails under the lid when I opened it.

Apparently the tip of his tail had been hanging over the edge at the top, when I closed it the night before, and he had to drop it to get free.

I felt that same HORROR also. His beautiful tail off because I was not more careful/ or aware the tip was there.

He has since grown back a lovely tail, but I will never forget that, I always CHECK NOW !

Hope she continues to do okay, let us know!
