Mating wound on P. Grandis

tazziesmommy Jan 30, 2006 12:00 PM

I got a new girl for my male a while back and they had been "flirting" and getting along great - but no mating that I witnessed. I got up today and the female has a wound on the side of her neck. I tried taking a picture but it was too blurry. It is a decent size wound, but she appears to be acting normal. I need to seperate them at least until she heals, right? Also, do I take her to the vet or just keep an eye on her and the wound?

Thanks,
Lisa

Hey There,

No need to worry!

Its common for the males to wound the females fairly seriously... You might keep them apart for a bit, but everything should be fine. So long as it doesnt get infected, there is no need for a vet.

- Just give here a place to lay her eggs and get an incubator ready!

Thank you! It sure looked horrible, but it's healing well. She just shed and it now looks like a white spot (kind of like a patch of unshed skin) where the injury was.

I've tried incubating eggs in a home-made incubator before without much luck so I just ordered a hovabator. Hopefully that will work better. I'm so excited!

Thanks again,
Lisa
