Hi Mike,
Where I work we spay cats in heat on a regular basis and haven't had any problems. The surgery will take a little bit longer and because of this some vets will charge more. If you decide to have your cat spayed while in heat I would make sure that the vet regularly performs this surgery and is comfortable with it.
