This is your friendly reminder that our annual Holiday/Christmas Party is Saturday, December 12th and we hope to see you all there. This year our theme is “Arabian Nights” come and join us for the special festivities – a pdf flyer can be emailed by request. This event is a side dish or desert potluck item brought, with the Society providing the main courses. Start time is 6:30 pm, room 101 Casa del Prado building, Balboa Park. This year we are also stepping outside the normal celebration mode and reaching out to lend a hand to those in need. In addition to your Potluck item please bring either a food donation for the Interfaith Food Pantry and/or an unwrapped gift for a teenage child in the foster care program. RSVP’s are required! So please – RSVP today.

Beginning in October, San Diego Herpetological Society (SDHS) will be alternating the meeting site between our Balboa Park Prado location and Escondido!
The October 22nd meeting will be held in Escondido at the Escondido Children's Museum located in Grape Day Park in the Arts Center Building.
The meeting will start promptly at 7:00pm. Keep your animals healthy and happy - come and learn about the latest in "Micro-Habitat Designs for Herps" – a demonstration lab.
Here is the SDHS schedule for meetings over the next 6 months:

The June 26th Meeting of SDHS will be a Member's Live Animal Expo.
This is your chance to show off your herps to other members, the San Diego public, and Reptile Super Show visitors. All members are invited to bring up to three twenty-gallon display tanks (or equivalent) with favorite herps from their personal collection. Come prepared to meet and greet the public.
Adult members will have on display many interesting reptiles and amphibians. And we will also have a special "Junior Herpers' Favorite Critters” display. The meeting room will be open at 5:30pm to allow for plenty of set up time.
Come prepared to meet and greet the public at 7:00pm . . . also we may have some print and television media present if their schedules allow.

Speaker: Julian Duval from the north county's Quail Botanical Gardens will be presenting a program on native flora and the interconnection to native fauna. Including how invasive (non native) flora has changed local habitats in the same sense that non native species of animals have effected eco communities. Julian has an extensive herpetological background, with work at several zoos over the years, so herps will be the focus. It's that time of the year again. We will be hosting our annual Holiday Party for the December meeting. Please note the date is Saturday (Dec 29th), so it will be in-between Xmas and New Years. We will also be using the main room (#101) across from our usual meeting room and start an hour earlier (6:00 pm). This year's theme will be Mexican food so the Society will provide the main course of Carne Asada with rice and beans, and beverages, but we do ask that those attending please bring a side dish or dessert to share will the group. We encourage all current and former members, their families, and friends of the SDHS to attend. This is a purely fun social gathering so there will not be any speaker/presenter, but we will have plenty of great raffle prizes throughout the evening. Last month Donald Schultz of Mfezi was scheduled to speak at the regular monthly meeting. But like many of us due to the fires, Donald was unable to join us. We know you were looking forward to traveling via Donald’s photos and stories to Costa Rica for an awesome Herping Adventure. Well, now you can! Clear your calendars, pack up your friends – and join us at the San Diego Botanical Garden Foundation’s regular meeting this Thursday – November 8th at 7:30pm sharp! Meet Donald and hear 1st hand about Costa Rican Herping Adventures. The Botanical Foundation welcomes our members so that we have the opportunity to hear Donald speak before he leaves on another 2 month international Herping Adventure! Hey Mark, what Tom said...lol. Herping has pretty much sucked this year. It's so dry out in the field that it's scary. Some of the animals seen have looked wrecked, and that was even earlier in the season. Aside from that it's going ok. No visits back down here yet?

The society is showing some improvement. We are now seeing some old faces from before your reign. A new guy in town called Ramy who owns Reptile City did a Reptile Super Show 3 weeks ago. It was a show like we haven't seen in 8 years. There were over 10k people that passed through the building (Scottish Rites). The waiting line was about 45 minutes on Sat and 30 minutes on Sunday. I was lucky to sell all my snakes off spring in the fist hour on Sat. Wasn't sure what I was going to do for the rest of the weekend. So I just hung out at the SDHS booth. I guess it goes to show that if you do the advertising like it should be you'll have the turn out you are looking for. If you do start an organization up there put us on your mailing list. We would like to share stories or even speakers?? How's life up there?

Probing, popping and visual characteristics will be discussed and shown.
