What are your thoughts on RDP (and/or stardust) genetics?
How are these genes being passed? Codominance, Incomplete dominance, Polygenic, Recessive or something else?
A little background on me: I am not a genetics wizard. I am a very new Diamond python breeder. I produced my first clutch last year. A rdp male x psychotic exotics female. 14 hatched, exactly 0 rdp's.

Despite what others will have you believe, RDP and stardust are the same thing, which is a simple recessive gene. So your offspring are all heterozygous for RPD/stardust

Been trying for a few years, and finally had success last night. Of course, ran into an unexpected issue with the incubator, and the new order hasn't arrived yet. The eggs arrived 4 days earlier than I calculated, and only one day after the lay box was put into the cage. Fingers crossed I can keep the temps and humidity correct until the new one arrives any day.

I have a 4 1/2 year old female Irian Jaya Carpet Python. I bought her 02/15/2017 and she fasted for 4 months but has recently started eating with no problems. During the fast she grew from 6' to 7.5'. With that type of growth, I currently feed a jumbo rat every three weeks, will the growth maintain? Reason I as is she should live 15 to 20 years old and will get so long. Don't take me wrong as the larger she gets I like it and have no problems treating her as a pet should be treated. I really enjoy her and she is so docile. Terrarium 6'x2'x4' allows room and has what that type of snakes wants/needs. IN THE END MY QUESTION IS will her growth remain the same or with age do they start to grow slower?

I was provided wrong information by seller. I have female coastal carpet python, not irian jaya carpet python, so she will get large, and I like that, and seems grow fastest up to around 7 years of age and then growth slows. Some information may not be 100% on but is close enough for what questions I had.

I bred my two double het (axanthic/albino) carpet pythons together earlier and the female laid 12 eggs so my chances for a snow carpet was only 75 % but one of the eggs died and so with 11 eggs my odds dropped.
Well they started hatching yesterday and I hit the jackpot. I got one egg that had twins in it and both were snow carpets but that is not all 2 others eggs hatched these were snow carpets as well.
Total for the clutch:
1 axanthic
2 albinos
5 normals
4 snow
Not only are these the first snow carpets hatched here in US but 4 snows in a clutch of 11 eggs in un heard of!

I modified a piece of furniture to use as a home for my Jungle Jag. It's made in India of acacia wood. I'm not sure if the wood is toxic to snakes. My jag seems a little despondent but it may just be related to his shed cycle. He has been in this new cage for approximately two weeks and shows no obvious signs, such as rash or blisters but he refused his last meal. I've moved him back into a glass aquarium to see if he perks up but its way too small for a permanent home. Would appreciate you thoughts.

I'm looking for a solid, healthy feeding guide for the animals in the Morelia family in reference to the animals length or weight. I believe all the animals in the Morelia family share the same body proportion in relationship to their girth and length. I realize most people base the size of the rodent off the animals girth alone. However, if the animal is over/under conditioned this wouldn't be the best way. I don't have a scale to weigh my animal or the rodents I feed her, but would consider getting one if I could base the animals weight to selecting the correct rodent size. It seems as though, on average most snakes will or should reach their full adult size at 4 years old. I have firmly decided to feed one (1) "appropriate" size rodent each feed more frequently instead of multiple rodents less frequently. When I say "appropriate" size rodent, I mean that the animal and rodent both share close to the same girth. This guide should exclude the morelia viridis since the feeding frequency is different for them. I am very surprised that this information doesn't seem to be available by now, and should be since it is most important for the animals health. Any recommendations would be appreciated. For example,
2ft Length = 1 Fuzzie Mouse @5 Days
3ft Length = 1 Hopper Mouse/Weanling Mouse @5 Days
4ft Length = 1 Adult Mouse/Rat Pup @7 Days
5ft Length = 1 Weaned Rat/Small Rat @7 Days

Id say your schedule is great for neonates and sub adults. I think adults can be fed much less, say once a month or 2 small meals a month.

All of that depends on temperature and amount of energy expended.
I like my way - if they look hungry, then they eat. Pretty easy to tell. Never had an unhealthy animal that way.

I have a 2008 JCP that never ate rats until this year. Now all of a sudden, all it eats is large rats. I can understand a year after its born switching over to rats, but I've never heard of a JCP eating rats five years later. Weird.

well, that's cool. Better late then never. 
Mine started on rats much earlier an once he did he grew very fast. He's right around 8 foot long. Very docile. Wonderful pet. This is an older photo of him.

I did the happy dance today!! My female jcp laid her first clutch of eggs sometime between three p.m. Friday afternoon and about an hour ago! Sicne I didn't catch her in the act, she will be maternally incubating, and I did get a glimpse of the eggs while removing four duds, and estimate there to be between 8-12 good eggs in the clutch. It's been a long hard road, but it's now being rewarded!!

Hello to whomever is reading this, I currently own a 50 % pos. het for albino irian jaya jaguar male. He was produced by a breeding of a pure coastal jaguar male which was 100 % het for albino to a irian jaya female. What I would like to know is how do I switch him from frozen thawed mice to rats.

I guess the question here is if his moms side's potential "pickyness" overpowered his dads voraciousness. If he inherited coastal eating habits then all you have to do is present him with a rat. If hes picky i would try defrosting your rats alongside a mouse and scenting them that way. I just switched over my coastal from mouse hoppers to rat pups last week, no questions asked. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Little Coastal that i picked up last week. She (although im not entirely convinced that she's a she) has never struck at me once. Belly bulge is a f/t hopper she took 2 days after picking her up. Talk about no stress.

Hello all. I got this girl a while back from a person who could no longer care for her. I am curious what kind of carpet she is? I believe the person said she was a coastal but I want to make sure. I looked up pictures of coastals and she doesn't look like all of them; some of them she does. I don't work with Morelia so I figured I would ask someone who does to verify. I have been keeping and breeding carpet pythons for well over 25 years. That very well could be a jungle but it is really hard to say due to the fact that so many people have both willing and unwillingly crossed subspecies for generations now. The true jungle carpets that entered into this country back in the 80's looked pretty much like the one you have there!

My husband and I are relocating and unable to continue to properly care for our reptiles. If you are or anyone you know is near the New Orleans area, we are sad to see them go, but are looking for a good home for our 2 snakes and 2 bearded dragons.
Both snakes are female, never been bred, both approximately 5.5 feet long. One is a central american red tail boa (raised since '04), and the other a jungle x diamond python ('05).
The beardies are split - one male, one female - approx 7 years old.
Enclosures, equipment may be provided. If you are interested please let us know & pictures can be provided as well.

N E ways thought id say hi to all you fine people and share a couple pics of some of my new buddys, this is Nipper coming of a perfect shed that took all of two minutes from the time he rubbed his not till i pulled the shed out of his house, and Satan getting ready to bite me again. (photos are cell phone pics and as such not great quality but best i have for now)

I have always heard that Bredl's pythons have calm temperments. Last fall I got a baby male Bredl's that is the wickedest biter I have ever owned. He likes to launch and strike the glass any time I enter the snake room. He is about 5 months old now. Will he grow out of this? He makes my retics look like bearded dragons-lol. Thanks for your advice. Bill

I recently picked up my first bredli. I was told "she" is a female, but I always double check. I need to know the actual probe depth. I have heard 4-6 for female, 7-10 male, but want to be sure before I go looking for a mate.

Most male Bredli will probe 9 to 12 deep. Females normally 3 to 5. Not a whole lot is written on Bredli's which is too bad. Great animals! Several years ago Doc Rock with Southern Cross Reptiles wrote a very good article on keeping and breeding Bredli. I don't know if you can still find this article on the web or not. Good luck with your Bredli.
