				<title>Kingsnake.com - Herpforum - Water Snakes</title>

				<link>https://forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?catid=85</link>

				<description>

				  In North America Nerodia is the genus of nonvenomous colubrid snakes commonly referred to as water snakes. Nerodia species vary greatly, but all are relatively heavy-bodied snakes, sometimes growing to 4 feet or larger. They have flattened heads, with small eyes that have round pupils, and keeled scales. Some display distinct banding, others have blotching, and some have diamond-shaped patterns. Most are brown or olive green, with markings being brown, or black, yellow or cream-colored accenting is common.

As their name implies they spend the vast majority of their time in, or very near permanent sources of water and can often be found basking on tree branches which overhang slow moving streams or ponds. Their primary diet is fish and amphibians, and they are quite adept at catching both in their aquatic environment. They will also consume rodents.

Here you may post messages or questions pertaining to all aspects and issues regarding the keeping, breeding, health, and conservation of all Water Snakes.

 Hello,

I would like to build a pond to install in the enlosure to put some small fish or tadpoles in for it's night hunting. I've heard of queen snakes as big as an adult water snake but never saw one until now. When I saw a head sticking out no bigger than my pinkie I assumed there were two different snakes. Found at a busy public boat launch on a reservoir, not the small stream where you'd expect to find one.
