If yours aren't tame, sometimes in the process of pooping on you a male will evert his hemipenes (sometimes you can get lucky and sex juvies this way). My northern pic is of a female, but males should have a broader more triangular head. With the southerns, I typically don't see a marked difference between the sexes until they are at least two years old so you may have to wait a bit on the baby. Bellow is a picture of a pair of southerns (male is on the left) and a picture of a female northern (you can see if her head shape matches your adult's).
