Hello,
I know your post is somewhat old but I just noticed it today.
That is correct, there is no undergraduate Herpetology program that I know of. However, at many larger schools involved with research, it is very possibly to get some experience working in research labs, or even do an independent research project. Look around some at schools with good Ecology or Zoology programs for people doing research involving herps and try contacting them. I know Cornell University (in Ithaca, NY) has some herp people and lots of undergrad opportunities and excellent biology and ecology programs. I believe the same goes for UC Berkeley (California), and Eric Pianka is somewhere in Texas and he does a lot of interesting herp research.
The best I can recommend is look around and apply to places with good undergrad ecology or zoology programs and try to get lab and research experience while trying to make contacts.
