Your animal is the eft stage of the eastern newt (Notophthalmus viridescens). He is a woodland-adapted animal (for now) but will eventually transform into a drab olive-and yellow aquatic adult (but he'll keep the red spots). This could happen in a month or five years from now, though. Keep in mind that many states do not permit wild-collection of animals without permits; contact your state fish and game agency for more info. Good luck!
