You don't say what size cage you have but, the light should be about 10 inches from the sand to be effective. You can supplement from time to to time, but if you are feeding them a well rounded diet meaning lots of ants and occasssional other insects they should do well in captivity. You also didn't say what specie you have either. It's veasier to answer a question when you leave us with a few more facts....but hopefully you have one lizard in a 20L cage or equivelant or a 40 gallon for a pair or trio, that would be a minimum. Temps need to be around 105 on the hot side and 85 or so on the cool side of the cage........hope this helps.
