My E. and Midland Painteds have lived outside in huge rubbermaid bins for 2.5 years now with no problems. NOt sure about spotteds, however.

During the winter, I bring them inside as it can get quite chilly, and I worry they might be stuck in the "death" zone where they're too cold to want to eat and too hot to want to hibernate.
