"Out there" as far as I know. the person that photographed it wasn't aware of what it was,and sent me the picture for ID.this may be an adaptation to help them blend in better with a predominantly sandy natural enviroment?(this was taken on a small island off the coast of South Carolina.) needless to say,I was pretty surprised when I saw the pic! pretty cool I thought.
