Grrr I'm an idiot who doesn't read the messages all the way through :-P

I find that dirt seems to make the best substrate. I use the compacted kind. It absorbs water well and they seem to enjoy burrowing in it. Make sure it doesn't have any sticks or anything like that in it because the little toads can hurt themselves. Also make sure they have a good heat lamp because they like warm temperatures (60 watt works fine for me). Also provide a few water dishes depending on how many toads you have. When you go to feed them, be sure to mist them. For some reason these toads can be picky about eating and want to be sprayed a lot *shrugs*
