Actually, I live about ten miles southeast of the recorded range for the American Toad. (No big deal, but the Fowler's is a lot more common in the area.)
I prefer the soft song of the American, but the Fowler's is a little prettier (IMHO).
And it's a wash on the size.
So I am still debating...and waiting on some wise toadaphile to enlighten me with a final consideration.
(Oh! why didn't I fall in love with toads before one month ago; I spied a nice plump female on the short walk home from the library one warm drizzling evening? Now I must wait until the next Spring! Oh! torturous seasons! Oh! hard-hearted weather!)
