(This excludes predation, which obviously shortens their lives in some cases.) In the wild their diet is varied considerably more than in captivity. We, as keepers, can offer them crickets, worms, mice and fish, and not even be close to the kind of variety they come across in the wild. So, sorry to disagree, but I really believe that things live at least as long in the wild as they do in captivity, provided proper care of course. I am also of the opinion that only those parasites that do not require an intermediate host are dangerous.
