There are a few steps that i take to cure wood. here they are in order.
1- Do not pick up a dead or rotten piece of the ground, the chances of it being soft and brittle and loaded with parasites is much grater. I like cutting off a fresh piece of branch from a live tree.
2-make sure u have absolutely no sharp edges to the branch, my ball python once cut himself. on the first cured wood that i created, I made sure from that day on that i would never put anything remotely sharp in the tank.
u canb either debark or leave it with the bark provided once more that it cant harm ur snake.
3- create a 1 to 10 bleach solution and leave the branch in it overnight.
4-with a large brush over hot water, scrub thouroughly the branch to remove all solution from ur branch.
5-place the branch in the oven at 400 for 10 minutes. Do not leave it unattended.
6- i take one more unnecessary step which is then placing my branch in the freezer for an hour.
The branch comes out cleaner then any plate i would eat out of.
enjoy!!!!
