First Tortoise

I was looking at getting my first tortoise. The redfoot was always one of my favorite, but I have heard that they are hard to take care of because of the humidity.
What do you think? Any other tortoises that you would recommend that would be a good first one (something small because I have to be in an apartment for a few years)?
