Carefully sift through the substrate.
Mine stayed burried with the eggs - to guard them. Next year, I'm going to try giving her a setup that allows her to guard them through hatching, as nature intended. The difficulty is providing humid but not wet substrate.
In fact, after I removed the eggs, she kept burrying herself in the same vicinity as where she layed. So I think it may be better for the mental health of the mother to let her guard until they hatch. I'm just not set up for it.
Sometimes it happens by accident - people don't even know their lizard laid until they see hatchlings running about - so it can't be too difficult. ----- 3.6 L. getula californiae - 16 eggs (Cal.
