Wardster,
Despite having water available, some Rubber Boas will dehydrate. Thus I periodically soak all of my captives in shallow water for about 10 - 15 minutes. I do so about once every 4 - 5 weeks during the active season and every 7 - 8 weeks during the 5 - 6 month inactive season (during brumation).

Also, in all cages and aquaria I give the boas a choice of at least three hides --- even in the smallest 5 gallon aquaria in which I maintain juveniles. Beneath one hide is dry substrate, one has slightly damp substrate (coarse Douglas Fir sawdust) and moss at one end, and a small plastic lid with water under a third hide.

Caution: If your boa has fed recently, monitor the specimen if you place it in water to soak as if they deposit a scat and then drink, that can lead to serious problems.
