I can tell you've handled a few of them. I tried to keep one as a pet when I was a teenager. I got bite EVERY time I handled it.

I'm still not completely convinced its a coachwhip though. The ones out here tend to be the red/orange phase ones and almost all of them have a black head and neck. If I was betting on it though I'd bet it was a coachwhip. I have seen both flagellum and taeniatus in that area. I do see more flagellum but I would guess I see more of them because of the way they carry thier upper body so high above the ground while they hunt. Taeniatus carry their heads high too but not near as high coachwhips do.
