Posted by: gauger79 at Sat Jun 14 17:13:23 2008 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by gauger79 ] about the venomoid snake still delivering venom in a bite,a couple of things first, i know a few "surgeons" that i trust, with elapids they do a full adonectomy which is removing the whole glands and ducts,with this there is no chance of the snake ever being able to produce venom again.. now with vipers some "surgeons" only do a ductectomy which is only removing a piece of the duct and cauderising(sure i spelled that wrong oh no) the two ends, leaving the glands in, they do this with vipers because removing the glands can cause the shrunken in head look. the duct CAN regenerate and usually its like one side and just a little bit, but just a little bit of some snakes venom is enough to kill you. now though most places take out the glands and ducts on vipers and elapids both and use surgical implants to keep the head looking right. sooo if you are buying a venomoid snake just ask if it has the glands and ducts removed or just the ducts. i would stay away from the ones with only the ducts removed and find one with with glands and ducts removed. because once a gland is removed it cannot grow back.
