Since almost all T. natans for sale are wild-caught, I wouldn't recommend buying them, or encouraging their importation by asking for them. I own four, and I originally bought them because I thought it was a fluke that the pet store owner had gotten them, and figured he'd never be able to get them again, so my purchase wouldn't encourage him getting more. Boy, was I wrong. It was later learned that he was a direct importer of fish and reptiles, and he has since had a few shipments of caecilians in his store, making me wonder about the how legal his operation is.

My "eels" started out at 8", and the biggest female is over 18" now, and eating pinkies regularly. My 55 gallon tank is getting a little cramped for the four of them, but they still ALL manage to fit into their artificial log at one time for hours - it's physically impossible, IMO, but they manage it. I added a second log, but they shun it - guess it doesn't smell like home. I wish I could get something larger for them, but it's not in the budjet right now. If I'd known how large they would grow, I probably wouldn't have acquired them.
