Those half logs they sell at pet stores are garbage! They don't allow the reptiles any protection unless you bury them in substrate so the lizard can burrow his way in. Think about lizards in the wild. When you try and catch them, where is the first place they go? Either a burrow or if a pile of rocks is nearby they'll try and find the tightest crack possible. It's so predators can't get in or pull them out. It gives them the secrity that they most likely won't be eaten. Great hides are something wear the lizards belly touches the floor and the top of the lizard touches the roof. Reptiles don't care to live in palaces for hides, because if its a palace then that means a predator can most likely get in and eat them. They want something they can get in and the predator can't.
