WSAW (Wausau, Wisconsin) 24 March 08 Rumors to Use Rattle Snakes to Thin Turkey Population in Wisconsin Just Plain Turkey Talk (Kristina Szews) {Excerpt}
You may have heard the rumor that the Wisconsin department of Natural Resources plans to deal with a high turkey population, by releasing rattlesnakes, and the DNR tells us, that's not true.
The DNR says in Northcentral Wisconsin, the odds are actually in the turkey's favor.
Wildlife Biologist Courtney Schaefer says that's true for a few reasons, "We would not be introducing this species, they probably would not survive in the county its a little colder up here."
Schaefer also says turkey eggs are too big for the small snake to eat and the snakes only feed on small rodents.
They say the answer is to increase the amount of turkeys that are hunted.
