Sunday night a giant tornado went thru a town 50 miles away from my house, very devistating for the people of that town and I feel very bad for them, but the one good thing about that kind of weather is the frogs and toads went crazy in my backyard garden pond that night, it was hot and humid that day and a couple male american toads started singing in the early afternoon, which was very early for them lately, there had been two of them in the pond the past week, usually starting closer to dark. Also later in the afternoon I heard the first calls of the year of a gray tree frog down by the woods, as it got closer to dusk the calls of the gray tree frog got closer and closer to the garden pond, I strained my eyes in the direction of the calls from the view from my deck to no avail, not untill he had snuck up to the pond edge and I could see his throat bulging in and out by the landscape lights. By the time the sun set the wind was still calm but the storms where coming as you could see the lighting on the horizon and I counted at least 5 male american toads calling in the pond plus the gray tree frog, numberous wrestling matches broke out and the sound was almost deafening and probably anoyed the heck out of my neighbors, yet to a reptile and amphibian geek like me it was a Mozartish or even Beethovenistic equivilent.
