As of the publication of Turtles of the United States and Canada (1994), no hybrids between painted turtles and any other species had been reported, and I have not heard of any since. Painted turtles and sliders occur abundantly in the same habitats and have ample opportunity to hybridize, so the lack of known hybrids may indicate genetic incompatibility or reluctance to mate. If the latter, it is possible that they will mate in captivity when no conspecific mates are available.

In my opinion it is very unlikely that your painted turtle and slider will interbreed, but I won't say that it's impossible; stranger things have happened.
