coachwhips and racers are pre-programed to eat anything that moves in front of them that will fit down their throat, except baby mice they don't eat them till their adults, and seem to just scare the living s#!# out of them till then. but deep bedding is also nesassary for security (2-3 inches deep) and holding them like a pet is not good, these are the most stressed but the smartiest snake you'll ever own, and maybe after a year of advid eating of small lizards you should be able to hold it for short amounts of time.
