I found a small northern Ringneck snake in my basement a couple weeks ago. It's currently in a 5 gallon tank with some moist eco-earth, leaves from the yard to hide under, and a water dish. I'm not sure if it's a hatchling but it's about 6 inches long and it is definately a Northern Ringneck. He/she has settled into the tank and even seems to enjoy crawling onto fingers when they're placed into the tank. I just can't get it to eat. I know I haven't had it long but I've tried a dead salamander (larval, about an inch long or so) and it just went bad after a few days of leaving it in a covered tank. I also tried a piece of earthworm I chopped into a centimeter pieces. It seemed slightly interested in the earthworm piece but as it was still wiggling, it touched the snake's nose and freaked the little snake out. The snake doesn't seem stressed; it hasn't so much as musked at all since I've had it. Is there a trick to getting it to eat?
