I got an adult Emerald Tree Boa back on Sept 2nd and I tried many different things to get him to eat. He seemed healthy and robust so I tried not to worry for the first month or so. The previous owner said he was eating frozen thawed small rats/adult mice. Once every 10 days I would spend about 20-25 minutes offering him a very warm frozen thawed rat or adult mouse on tongs. At first he seemed scared of it and would back away and once even laid in the floor of the cage. Then he seemed to be interested but never would take it. I tried moving it up and down and from side to side, offering it to him from underneath and tried dangling it over top of him and even tried standing still. I tried early mornings and late night after lights had been out for hours. One night I put a live mouse in the cage and he looked at it for a while then just perched back up and forgot it.

I remember reading on different websites one trick that worked on non responsive feeders. In fact I read it was Emerald Candy! Many of you already know what I am talking about but it worked the first time! Want to know what worked?

A LIVE DWARF HAMSTER!

I bought one today and put it in the cage turning out his light about 4 hours early and then laid down to take a nap. I woke up a couple hours later and peeped into the doorway of my reptile room. There was enough light from the other enclosures to make what was going on in his cage slightly visable! I woke up at the perfect time. He was hanging down in the S position watching the hamster and boom 5 seconds after I looked at him, he snatched it! I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasnt dreaming! You could have knocked me over with a feather! I dare not make a move to disturb him and I am about 9 feet away from his cage. Within 10 minutes he had a full belly! Dwarf hamsters really are emerald candy!
