I'd like to keep my RES outside, and was wondering if a simple large stock pond sunk into the ground would work? I was thinking one of the 200-300 gallon ones probably. It gets cold up here sometimes, but rarely above 15 degrees, and rarely below freezing for any length of time, so would that be large enough for him to overwinter in, if I put some sort of substrate or heater in the tank? I mean they're native critters, but I know full well that a large pond is more resistant to temp changes than a 200 gallon tub. The tank would be 5 feet long by 2 feed wide by 3 feet deep if I've got the dimesons from Gebo's right.
