The legality aspect will come from state/local ordinances as these are the laws that govern the keeping of these animals. But, I would highly recommend that you submit your animals to Janice at the ASDM for inclusion in the studbook. It is a good way to maintain a "legal" trail of your animals as most breeders submit data to her every year which show how many animals they produced and which animals they were, where the offspring went and who they were sold to.
