Anything that causes a cham to lose parts of its tail is a major problem. There was either a traumatic injury that damaged the blood supply to the tissue causing it to die, or a serious infection. Either way, your cham is fighting a systemic infection most likely and will need an experienced herp vet to prescribe antibiotics. Not just any antibiotic, but one that is specific to the bacteria present in the dying parts of the tail tissue. We can't diagnose this on a forum. We can't possibly know what happened. Could have been a burn, an injury, insect bites, infection, anything.
