If you found it in the Angeles Nat'l Forest it is most likely P. coronatum and is a protected species in California. Best thing to do is put it back where you found it as long as it has not been exposed to any other exotic lizard species or their cages. If it has been exposed to exotic reptiles (not native to California) then it should be turned over to authorities. This can be done without causing yourself grief from the law enforcement perspective. Typically LE is only interested in prosecuting those who collect and sell these protected lizards.
