The only thing I can think of is a possible thermal burn has damaged the skin. A cham can get too close to a hot basking light if the rest of the cage was cold and it was trying to warm up. Ironically, basking reptiles don't have many heat sensors in their skin and they can get burned before they move. If this is a burn (and the dorsal area is the most likely place for one), the skin will eventually turn black, looked damaged, and slough away. You'll need to treat it with a burn ointment to avoid infection. A great one is Silvadene available from a vet.
